Standards of Care (Plumb's)

We are partnered with Instinct Science to bring you their veterinary reference tools inside Vetspire: Standards of Care™ and Plumb’s.

  • Standards of Care™ (formerly known as Plumb’s Pro): Provides diagnostic and treatment guidance, pet owner education materials, and other resources to help you optimize patients' treatment plans.

  • Plumb’s: Part of Standards of Care™, Plumb’s provides reliable drug information on uses, dosages, interactions, and more. When you order a medication during an encounter, you can view monographs from the Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook inside Vetspire.

Getting Started with Standards

A Standards of Care subscription is required to integrate Standards and Plumb’s with Vetspire. Complete the ‘Standards with Plumb’s for Vetspire’ form to set up your subscription.

Do not contact Vetspire Support to enable the Standards with Plumb’s integration.

The integration is enabled by the Standards team on behalf of your practice.

Steps to have the Standards with Plumb’s integration enabled for your practice:

  1. Go to Financials > Types and ensure that all medication product types are set to Is Medication? = Yes.

  2. Go to More > Inventory & Services > Tools > Products Upload and download a CSV file of your organization’s products.

  3. Review the Plumb’s Monograph mappings for your medication products. Make updates as needed, then save the file.

  4. Send the most up-to-date version of the product CSV file to the Standards team.

The Standards team will then request the integration with Vetspire for your location on your behalf.

You must send your Product CSV to Standards before the integration can be enabled.

The Vetspire system automatically matches your medication products to Plumb’s Monographs through the Mass Upload/Change Products feature.

We recommend you review the matches before sending the Product CSV to Standards.

Once the Standards with Plumb’s integration is enabled, you can access the Standards database from anywhere in Vetspire by selecting the Standards logo in Global Navigation.

Automatically Map Plumb’s Monograph through Mass Products Upload

Through the Mass Upload/Change Products feature, the Vetspire system can automatically map your medication products that have an 80% or better match to a Plumb’s Monograph.

  1. Go to More > Inventory & Services > Tools > Products Upload.

  2. In the Filter to Locations (Step 1) field, select your primary location.
The Plumb’s mapping will apply to all products across your organization. We recommend selecting one location in this step to export a smaller, more manageable file size.

  3. Select Email All Products.

  1. Open the CSV file from your email. Two columns for Plumb’s display:

    1. plumbs_id: The unique ID for the Plumb’s monograph from the Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook.

    2. monograph title: The name of the drug associated with the Plumb’s monograph ID. This is a read-only field – any changes made in this column will not change your product details or Plumb’s mapping.

  1. Do NOT add the Plumb’s ID for a medication product in the plumbs_id column.
When you import the file back into Vetspire, the system will run an algorithm to automatically match your products to their corresponding Plumb’s monographs.

  2. Save the CSV file to your device.

  3. Go back to More > Inventory & Services > Tools > Products Upload.

  4. Select Choose File (Step 3), then select your saved CSV file.

  5. Select Upload & Update! You will receive a confirmation email when the upload is complete.
