Diagnostic Drop-Offs

If a client brings a stool or urine sample outside of an appointment, use the Drop-off Diagnostic encounter to document and charge for the lab.

  1. Open the patient's chart and click New. Select Drop-Off Diagnostic encounter.

  2. Assign the appropriate provider and a technician.

    • For an integrated diagnostic, select Order Lab.

    • For a non-integrated lab, order the diagnostic lab through Orders.

  3. In Notes, give relevant information, including the sample type.

  4. Remember to Sign the encounter, Finalize the invoice, and check out as usual.


Pre-paid Diagnostic Samples

When unable to obtain a patient’s lab sample in-house and the client has already paid for the diagnostic service, the sample is sent to the lab on another date.

Owner Obtained Samples (ex: stool, urine, etc.)

  1. Print out the paid requisition form.

  2. Print a patient label.

  3. Place patient label on sample container and label it PAID.

  4. Send home both the requisition form and sample container with the owner.

Clinic Obtained Samples (ex: blood, cytology, etc.)

  1. Schedule the patient for another visit.

  2. At the scheduled appointment, collect the sample.

  3. Navigate to the Labs tab and find the pending lab order to print the requisition form and follow the usual steps to send a sample to the lab.

ENSURE THE CORRECT LAB BY CHECKING THE ENCOUNTER DATE ATTACHED TO THE PENDING LAB.
