Combo Vaccines Best Practice (Admin)
This article describes a recommended workflow for combination vaccines that allows different follow-up reminders to be generated without having to manually add reminders in Patient Chart.
When you order a combination vaccine for a patient in Vetspire, the main product code for the vaccine is what is ordered. Additional product codes for other portions of the vaccine can be linked to the main product code, so that they are also ordered.
For example, if you are ordering a DAPP+L4 vaccine for a canine patient, DAPP would be the main product code, and the product code for L4 would be linked to DAPP so that the two products are ordered together (as one combo vaccine).
How to Link Combo Vaccine Product Records
Before You Get Started
Add the combination vaccine and included vaccines as individual product records in your Vetspire inventory (if you have not done so already). See Manage Products for more details on adding product records.
Go to More > Inventory & Services > Manage > Products.
Search for and select the combination vaccine in the Products table. This opens the product details panel.
Select Edit Details to open the Edit Product Details window.
Select More Options in the Inventory Information column.
Locate the Linked Products field. In this field, search for and select all vaccines included in the combination vaccine.
Select Save.

Vetspire Recommends
Do NOT add the combination vaccine as a ‘Linked Product’ in the product details for the included vaccine.
Ordering a Combo Vaccine
Linked products are automatically included with orders for combination vaccines.

In the Orders section of an encounter, included vaccines display with an Invalid Date in the Due Date column by default. Select the included vaccine to edit the Lot Number, Next Due Date, and Lot Expiry Date as needed. This allows you to schedule different due dates for different vaccines – for example:
A combination DHPP + Lepto vaccine is administered to a patient on January 1, 2025.
The patient’s next DHPP vaccine is due 3 years later on January 1, 2028.
The patient’s next Lepto vaccine is due 1 year later on January 1, 2026.
On the encounter invoice, the line item for the included vaccine automatically displays with a Total Price of $0, so that the client is only charged for the combo vaccine.

Manage Protocols for Combo Vaccines
If you have created a unique product record for a portion of the combination vaccine, and you have a reminder protocol for the administration of this vaccine, you must link the product record to the protocol.
Go to More > Marketing & Reminders > Reminders > Reminder Protocols.
Select the protocol you want to edit.
In the Triggered Products section, search for and select the product record for the included vaccine.
Confirm that the Enable option is toggled on.
The system automatically saves your changes. This procedure ensures that reminders are triggered for each portion of the combination vaccine according to its due date.
